Launched in 2007 the NHL Network is jointly owned by the National Hockey League which has majority share and NBCUniversal. The channel is primarily dedicated to ice hockey, and features live games, specials, analysis, and documentaries. The network also telecasts collegiate hockey games. Headquartered in Secaucus, New Jersey, the network utilizes the same facilities as the MLB Network. The decision to move to New Jersey was made after a six-year deal was signed with the MLB in 2015 to take over the management of the league’s digital properties which included the NHL Network.

Streaming the NHL Network with the Official App
The official NHL app is called GameCenter which gives subscribers to the ability to stream live season and out of market games on their mobile device. A subscription to GameCenter costs $130 a year, or you can choose to pay $100 a year to watch a particular team play. Subscribers can also opt to pay $25 a month. This is not the same as the NHL Network as a channel but functions in much the same way. They actually black out some of the games in GameCenter that are on NHL Network. At this time it’s just the way it is and isn’t that great for hockey fans.
