It’s always tremendous fun to remind ourselves just how many times DeMarcus Cousins has been called for a technical foul over the past few years.

But we wanted to dig a little deeper so we thought it would be interesting to make an NBA “All-Technical Foul” team by sourcing data on the total number of technical fouls per player in each position. We pulled data over the past five seasons and added it up for all currently starting players. Below you’ll find the starting team (and their backups in italics).

All things considered, this lineup is pretty solid, and most importantly, it puts Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook both on the same team, always a pleasant treat.

Player Team Position Technical fouls (past 5 seasons)
DeMarcus Cousins New Orleans Pelicans PF 84
Dwight Howard Atlanta Hawks C 74
Russell Westbrook Oklahoma City Thunder PG 72
Kevin Durant Golden State Warriors SF 52
DeMar DeRozan Toronto Raptors SG 31
DeAndre Jordan Los Angeles Clippers C 60
Markieff Morris Washington Wizards PF 52
Kyle Lowry Toronto Raptors PG 51
Matt Barnes Sacramento Kings SF 40
Gerald Henderson Philadelphia 76ers SG 17

A few honorable mentions:

  • Tyson Chandler with 47 technical fouls would have been the next center
  • Draymond Green would have made the cut if he had stuck with last year’s technical foul trend. He had 21 technicals in 2015-2016, the most of any player over the past five years.
  • Shooting guards, compared to all positions, seem to have the lowest number of average technical fouls per season. Power forwards and point guards are the most often called for technicals.
